Optimizing Joomla for Google

Let's face it. Joomla, while it's the best free content management system, creates duplicate pages like teenagers make cell calls.

And while Google says it will not penalize duplicate content, if you drop from page 1 to page 50 in the search results, or disappear completely, I have to call that a penality.

I moved a couple of old sites to Joomla and watched them tank in the SERPs. I created a few new sites and watched Yahoo pick them up and rate them well. While Yahoo is a great search engine, and I'm gratefull for the traffic they've sent my way, let's face it, there is nothing that compares to ranking well on Google.

It took me a while to figure out where I was going wrong.

So, here is an outline of making a new Joomla site that won't barf up duplicate content. And I'll also review ways to correct your old Joomla site, so that Google will love you and rank you well.

I can do a CPanel | Fantastico install and SEO optimization of a Joomla 1.0X Installation in two hours.

And that's if I have problems creating a logo. It's a process that's easy, if you follow these step by step non-geek instructions. Don't get me wrong. When you set up your Joomla site for the first time, it might take a lot more time. But you won't waste any time looking for add-ons that work. And only free third party software will be listed in the articles.
